About the PTA
THE CAMPUS SCHOOL OF CARLOW UNIVERSITY
PTA GUIDELINES
I. Mission and Purpose
The Campus School Parent Teacher Association provides social opportunities to connect parents, teachers, staff and students through school activites, and organize special events that raise funds for enrichment programs, technology enhancements, teacher appreciation, and scholarship.
II. Membership
PTA Membership is open to all parents with students enrolled at the Campus School. Dues are yearly and are $25.00, which may be adjusted with Board Consensus. Parents can join PTA membership throughout the year.
III. Executive PTA Board
The PTA Board consists of the following:
1. President
2. Vice President
3. Secretary
4. Treasurer
IV. Term of Office
Term of office for each Board Member is two years, which may be adjusted by the current Board.
V. Meetings of the PTA
Frequency of meetings is at the discretion of the PTA Board, and should be announced to parents and faculty/staff via calendar, e-mail blasts, flyers, etc. The Secretary keeps a record of all meeting minutes. Special Guests, particularly faculty, are encouraged and welcome. Aladdin Food Services provides breakfast in the Cafeteria for a fee, or beverages and snacks for evening meetings.
VI. Fund-Raising
The Campus School PTA historically holds three to five fund-raising events throughout the year. They are as follows:
Scholastic Book Fair
Santa’s Workshop
Basket Raffle
Bake Sales
Bingo
VII. Social Events
The Campus School PTA tries to balance fund-raising events with events that may require a fee to cover food or rental costs, but are social in nature or are designed as a fun event for the students. The social events are as follows:
Rita’s Ice Welcome
Scavenger Hunt
Back to School Barbecue
Ice Skating Party (Schenley Park)
For descriptions of both Fund-Raising and Social Events, please refer to the PTA website: www.campusschoolpta.com.
VIII. Newsletter and Website
The PTA publishes a quarterly newsletter that is distributed on-line to all parents, faculty, and and administration. Those people requesting a printed copy should indicate as such on their PTA membership form, although the PTA encourages on-line communication for the savings on paper, printing, and postage. The newsletter content is dependent on the PTA Board, and may include articles on past and future PTA events, faculty, administration, or families, and a Calendar of Events. All issues of the newsletter are posted on the PTA website. (campusschoolpta.com).
The PTA website contains all information pertaining to PTA meetings and events, as well as school-wide announcements (i.e. Sports Team Schedules; Terra Nova testing; luncheon menus; etc.). This site should be maintained and updated regularly by a volunteer parent.
IX. PTA School Calendar
Before the beginning of each school year, the PTA publishes a school calendar.
X. Box Tops/Campbell’s Soup Labels
The General Mills Box Tops and Campbell’s Soup Labels are collection programs that start at the beginning of the school year and end in early Spring. Each classroom should be assigned boxes or containers for both Box Tops and Campbell’s Soup Labels, and these are collected twice yearly. Winning classrooms receive their choice of reward (pizza party, Rita’s Ice party, or ice cream party).
XI. Teacher Appreciation
Throughout the year, the PTA may sponsor “brown bag” lunches for the faculty, or a “Latte Cart” morning featuring specialty coffee and tea drinks prepared by an outside barrista. These events are at the discretion of the PTA, budget allowing, and are solely designed to show our support and appreciation of the Campus School’s faculty and administration.
XII. Homeroom Parents
The homeroom parent(s) plays a very important role at the Campus School, planning and organizing holiday parties, compiling a classroom contact list and distributing to class parents, working with teacher on any specific party or classroom needs. Homeroom parents are also instrumental in collecting monies for classroom gifts for teachers, working with the Chair of the Teacher Giving Program before the Christmas break. Two parents per homeroom is usually sufficient.
XIII. Miscellaneous
There may be other committees or chairpersons that may be added each year, dependent on the evolving needs of the Campus School PTA and the PTA Board. These may include, but are not limited to, Trinity Hall Liaison, Welcome Committee to New Families, etc.
